Underworld, silkscreen prints, 2021-’22

The Underworld silkscreen prints series is printed on fabrics in layers using natural inks. At the start of the Covid pandemic in 2019 I have started to experiment with making my own natural inks, mainly from plants. The layers create depth and texture which are enhanced by embroidery. Moving shadows & dancing light spots.

(Den Haag) de Creatieve Stad

De creatieve stad (= the creative city) was a poster project set up by the Grafische Werkplaats in cooperation with Haags Gemeentearchief. 30 Den Haag based artists designed and analog printed an A2 poster. These were exhibited at the Werkplaats. Digital A1 prints of these posters were exhibited at the Tramtunnel Gallery. I silkscreen-printed a 3-colour image (upon which I drew and stuck dot-stickers, making each print a one-off) of a towerblock as seen through the ‘stocking’ of the covering of the metro-line.

‘Scape trials

‘scape trials at the Analog Textiel Festival, 2014.

For the Analog Textile Testival in 2014 (organised and hosted by the Grafische Werkplaats) I made a series of ‘scapes with newly learned silkscreen techniques. Learned them from Daniel Henry during a workshop at this festival. The ‘scapes trials were presented during an exhibition at Hoop Warenhuis, Den Haag.

Also presented at the Mr Weiss exhibition in 2015 at Binckhorstlaan 215, Den Haag.

Silkscreen prints on fabrics, mostly 45 x 45 cm.

The presentation form can vary.

There are also a couple of hangings and ‘carpets’ that went with the presentation at Hoop Warenhuis.

‘scapes 2015 (textiles)

‘scapes – Ongoing from 2013.

During my a-i-r in Sydney in 2013 I started to develop the idea for a big project I am calling ‘SCAPES. Slowly working my way towards realising this project I am making smaller ‘scapes in different techniques. It is to be a large scale silkscreen print that will form the base for a cooperation project with various artists of various fields. An all-round art-experience.

‘scapes can be: landscapes, cityscapes, soundscapes, lightscapes…

These ‘scapes are realised in textiles.

A stroll in the park

At the exhibition ‘Graphics & Beyond’ in de Pieter, Leiden (organised by the Grafische Werkplaats) I transformed a room into a small circus tent, complete with sawdust to present the romance between Miss Sophia Schultz and Major Mite.

The 3 presented works are out of the Freaks Icons series.

Energies – In the woods

A performance with 3 costume statues. Deep in the woods 3 very different energies are manifesting themselves. They seem to be closed off from each other; each in their own little world. But is this right? Don’t they belong together and form a whole? Based on the Chakra energies. videorealisation: André Bijma assistance & light: William Pennings performers: Ingetje Wielenga, Yanaika Holle, Ilse Versluijs music: Davide Bellotta. Presented at Ververs gallery, Amsterdam in 2011. Exhibition of drawings of the Freaks series, the silkscreen print (the back piece) ‘In the woods’ and 3 statue costumes. The performance took place during the opening. The videorealisation was done separately.
